Material Science

What is a PET cup?

PET -- Polyethylene Terephthalate -- is produced by polymerizing ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid into a semi-crystalline thermoplastic. The result is a rigid, crystal-clear material with >90% light transmission and excellent dimensional stability at cold temperatures. It is the most widely specified material for cold drink cups globally, used across bubble tea, iced coffee, juice, and smoothie categories.

PET is a cold-only material. It softens above 60°C and is not suitable for hot beverages. Rated service temperature: -20°C to 60°C. For hot drink applications, see our paper cups .

PET carries resin identification code #1 (PETE), making it one of the most widely accepted materials in municipal recycling programs worldwide. PET cups are compatible with flat lids, dome lids, strawless sip lids, and heat-seal film. Lid diameter must match the cup opening diameter (78/89/90/92/95/98mm).
What is the difference between PET cups and PP cups?
PET cups are crystal-clear and ideal for showcasing drink colors. PP injection cups are slightly more opaque, have a thicker wall, and tolerate higher temperatures (-20°C to 120°C). PP cups with 90mm diameter are the standard for bubble tea heat-seal service.
How long does production take?
Stock unprinted cups: 3-5 business days. Custom printed cups: 15-25 business days after artwork approval. Shipping: sea freight 50-60 days, rail 45 days, air 10-15 days.
